Despite some windy and cool weather, this past weekend we had our best turnout at our Victoria BC-CWBL tournament. We had games at PISE (Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence) on Saturday and at Spectrum Community School on Sunday. Thank-you to all teams for coming out and making our third tournament another success; Tacoma Titans (4-1), Victoria Chargers (3-1), Vancouver Classics (3-1), Langley Gold Rush (2-3), Kamloops Bull-Dawgs (1-4), and Vancouver Cable Cars (1-4). BCWBS is hosting our first Zone Try-Out, November 25/26 as part of the Junior Challenge Tournament, Trinity Western University, in Langley. Try-out’s will be scheduled as a portion of this event and are open to athletes aged 12-21 years.

Provincial Team Coach, Simon Cass, was in Prince George, Thursday, October 19, 2017, for the inaugural practice of the new club. The Prince George Lumberjacks, under the guidance of their coach Rob Stiles, is looking to build on the legacy started by Pat and Nancy Harris, who have spearheaded wheelchair sports and accessibility in the North for the past 30+ years. Stiles ran a great first practice, culminating in a “crazy hat” relay that enabled team #2, led by Cass, to win gold in the “first practice Olympics” that was tracked over the course of the entire evening.

Limited spots are available to players who might be looking to play in this event as well. Please contact BCWBS about playing in the tournament info@bcwbs.ca . Big THANKS to Kamloops Adaptive Sports Association for hosting this action packed tournament. It will be a great weekend of games as Kamloops prepares to host the 2018 BC Games in February.

BC Wheelchair Basketball and BC Wheelchair Sports are seeking an individual to fulfill a Finance Coordinator position on a full time basis (2.5 days/week for each organization for a combined full time position or two positions at 2.5 days per position).
