Wheelchair Basketball athletes share their passion for the sport in Fort St. John

February 25, 2020

BC Wheelchair Basketball led a great activity in the participant event at North Peace Arena Feb 21. At the request of BC Games Host Society we hosted an activity station for Wheelchair Basketball with the idea to give athletes not familiar with wheelchair basketball an opportunity to try. It was great to be able to give athletes not familiar with wheelchairs and adapted sport the opportunity to sit in a chair and see what it's like. Kaden Baum, the one Para-nordic Skier from Salmon Arm, had the opportunity to try this sport out at the event and we are now talking with Kaden about joining one of our programs.

This is a great example how important it is to expose new sports to anyone through collaborative multisport event.  After that event, we were asked by Th fans and parents who have been cheering on our zone teams all week if they could have-a-go! Of course we said yes and had a gym filled after the consolation round game Feb 22.  We love seeing the smiles on all the faces and introducing everyone to our awesome sport!
