Steve Nash Tournament Includes Wheelchair Basketball

April 10, 2012

Basketball BC hosted the Steve Nash Youth Challenge at a year-end tournament and for the second straight year Wheelchair Basketball participated.  Young players from across the province had a great basketball weekend at the Langley Events Centre. They shared the sport of wheelchair basketball in an exciting initiative where able-bodied basketball players had the opportunity to try playing their sport from a wheelchair.

Some of the weekend highlights included basketball stars from TWU playing with our young up-and-coming athletes. The weekend is a great mixture of different theme games, skill sessions, and parents and athletes sharing the sport with other basketball enthusiasts.

Our society is fortunate to have many volunteers throughout the province coaching our junior programs. This weekend certainly displayed the improvement that many of the athletes have made since the beginning of the season. The parents’ dedication to give throughout the weekend and season has enhanced the experience of all the participants. Basketball BC was very appreciative and excited to have us integrated into this basketball event. Job well done by all who made it happen.

Big thanks to coach Joe, Brad, and Annemarie, as well as to all the athletes and their parents. We would also like to thank our partner Basketball BC and sponsors Shaw and Panago Pizza.
