BC Wheelchair Basketball Society Welcomes Matt Buchi To The Position Of Regional Development Coach

February 1, 2012

(Richmond, BC) -- The BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is pleased to welcome Matt Buchi as the Regional and Development Coach. Wheelchair basketball has experienced significant growth over the past several years and Buchi will continue to foster the expansion of the sport while working with our strong network of clubs and programs across BC.

Originally from Michigan, Buchi brings many years of experience coaching at the developmental, varsity and
international levels in both the USA and abroad. This summer, he served as the assistant coach of the USA’s under-25 women’s team, which won a gold medal at the 2011 U25 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championships. He was recently named assistant coach of the USA Senior Women’s Wheelchair Basketball national team, which will defend their gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympics.

“We are excited to be able to attract such an extremely qualified international-caliber coach as Matt Buchi,” said provincial head coach Joe Higgins. “He is a young, highly knowledgeable international coach who will bring his talents and enthusiasm to many programs we offer.”

Buchi is looking forward to expanding his coaching skill set by serving the diverse needs to
wheelchair basketball players across the province.

“"British Columbia is well-known as a hotbed of wheelchair basketball,” he said. “I'm excited to bring my coaching experience to communities across BC.”
