Aboriginal Have a Go in Vancouver on April 27

BC Wheelchair Sports Association (BCWSA), in collaboration with BC Wheelchair Basketball Society, Access Services and Britannia Community Centre, is pleased to host an Aboriginal Have a Go day. Individuals with and without disabilities will have an opportunity to try different wheelchair sports including wheelchair tennis, rugby, athletics, and basketball! Furthermore, peer mentors such as Richard Peter (a five time Aboriginal Paralympian in wheelchair basketball) will be leading the Have a Go session alongside BCWSA/BCWBS staff.

Date: Thursday, April 27th

Time: 3:00-6:00pm

Location: Britannia Community Centre - 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver BC

Cost: Free

Driving Directions: From the Commercial Broadway Skytrain station, head west on East Broadway toward Commercial Drive and then turn right at the 1st cross street onto Commercial Drive. Drive for approximately 1.4 km and you will see Britannia Community Centre on your left. (The community centre parking lot can be accessed via Cotton Drive or Woodland Drive from Venables street).

Walking Directions: From the Commercial Broadway Skytrain station, head west on East Broadway toward Commercial Drive. Turn right onto Commercial Drive and walk for approximately 1.4 km. Turn left onto Napier street and you will see Britannia Community Centre.

In addition, sport and recreation leaders are encouraged to come for an information session before the Have a Go session (2:00-3:00pm) to learn more about BCWSA and the Bridging the Gap program and discussing ways in which BCWSA can support development of wheelchair sport opportunities in the community. Peter Natrall from the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (ISPARC) will also provide information on their role within the sport system to support Aboriginal long-term athlete development.
