BC Wheelchair Basketball Society announces 2020 Education Bursary Recipients

August 6, 2020 (Vancouver B.C.) BC Wheelchair Basketball is pleased to announce three provincial team athletes as the BCWBS 2020 Education Bursary recipients.

Each year, through a generous anonymous donor, we are able to grant education bursaries to BCWBS members who are actively pursuing their post-secondary education.  We are fortunate in 2020 to be able to provide grants to 3 most deserving members of Team BC.

Lannette Boland (Pender Island), Matthew Norris (Maple Ridge), and Megan Smith (Vancouver) are all alumni of the BC Games and Canada Games program with BCWBS and are all enrolled in various post-secondary programs in BC and Saskatchewan.

“Wheelchair basketball means so much to me. It has helped me through many hard times and has brought amazing changes to my life, allowing me to travel and meet new people,” commented Megan Smith.

Similarly, Matthew Norris stated, “Wheelchair basketball gives me a place to be with new friends, to have fun, as well as an opportunity to learn how I can be a better athlete and teammate.”

Boland, who will be starting a dual degree program in September at the University of Saskatchewan mentioned that, “Wheelchair basketball is the way to stay connected with my friends and a way to continue to push myself athletically.”  She also plans to keep active in wheelchair basketball working with a Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports program in Saskatoon to continue her skill development for Team BC.

If you would like to make a donation to BCWBS and support any of our amazing programs and athletes, please email Sian@bcwbs.ca.
