Over the last three months, BCWBS members have had the chance to participate in a number of game opportunities. Regardless of your level of play, you now know the things you do well on the court, the things that you need to improve on, and hopefully what level of play you enjoy most. Because whether you are playing in the Tim Frick League and preparing for January’s session or you are training for National Team selection camp, it is time to take your game to a new level.

BCWBS is hosting a tournament for 4 Canada Games junior provincial teams: BC, Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, this weekend in Richmond. This will be good test matches for all the teams to see where they are at now and get ready for the Canada Winter Games in Halifax in February, 2011.

The Let's Play Program is a cooperative effort between BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS), the Rick Hansen Foundation and the Province of British Columbia. It is intended to help kids with mobility limitations to become physically active early in life by helping to establish the fundamental skills, knowledge and abilities needed to confidently participate in play, sport and physical education with their peers.

The BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is thrilled to be preparing to host club teams from across Canada once again for the 2011 CWBL Open Finals. We look forward to welcoming all the teams to a new venue the South Surrey Recreation Centre with our BC host teams the Douglas College Royals and Lions.

Kathy Newman, the Executive Director at BC Wheelchair Sports has been honoured with the top award in Sport and Recreation in BC. In Her Footsteps honoured three women who have made a difference in sport in BC on the evening of November 4 in downtown, Vancouver. Other honourees this year are Olympic sprinter and athletics organizer/administrator Diane Clement and national women's basketball coach Allison McNeill.

The Junior Wheelchair Basketball Challenge was held at Hugh McRoberts Secondary School this past weekend (Nov 13/14). With three teams in the Junior 10ft Division and two teams in the Mini Division, it was a great weekend for BC’s junior wheelchair basketballers.

The Tim Frick Family and Friends Fun Night was a huge success!! Over seventy people participated in the event that was held at Douglas College in New Westminster on November 9. Members of the City League brought out their friends and family to try wheelchair basketball often for the first time.

The junior players (8-24 years old) from across province will be competing in the 11th Anual Junior Wheelchair Bsketball Challenge this weekend. BCWBS and the leadership class at Hugh McRoberts Secondary School will be hosting our junior players including our weekly junior program participants, Canada Games team athletes, and all other young wheelchair basketball enthusiasts in Richmond. Come on out and check out what our junior players can offer!

Last weekend saw the opening round of the Division II competition for 2010. Six teams competed in Kelowna including, Kamloops Bulldawgs, BC Breakers (Lower Mainland), Vintage Cable Cars (Lower Mainland), Canada Games (Junior), Victoria Titans and the hosts the Okanagan Thunder.

October 22-24 was a big weekend for potential coaches and coaching facilitators from across Canada. 12 candidate coaches signed up to learn more about wheelchair basketball and five current coaches jumped at the opportunity to learn from the best at Douglas College in New Westminster, BC. A big thank you to all the players who came out over the weekend to give these coaches an opportunity to practice their new skills!

Last Tuesday at Douglas College (Sept 28), Wayne Corlett and Kevin Gordon from the Rotary Club of New Westminster joined us at the Tim Frick City League to present their donation of $1000.00 to support the league this season.

From WBC website. (Vancouver, BC) – The British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame inducted Sr. Men's National Team Member Richard Peter into their ranks on Thursday September 16, 2010. They announced in January that Peter will be amongst the nine individuals and one team slated for Induction as part of its 2010 class.

Tim Frick City League had a great start this Tuesday, Sept 7. Lots of laughs and excitement were already seen in the gym. About 30 players registered in this session include many new faces and veterans.

Seattle Adpative Sports and Seattle Parks and Recreation are hosting Dribble On Wheels Basketball Camp again this year. Coaching staff includes Matt Buchi (University of Illinois Assistant Coach), Stephanie Wheeler (University of Illinois Women’s Coach and Paralympian), Eve Hampton (University of Arizona Wildcat graduate an Phoenix Suns Women’s team player), and Desiree Miller (University of Alabama graduate and US National player).

BC Wheelchair Basketball and Douglas College are thrilled to offer the BCWBS - Tim Frick Fall 2010 City League. The lower mainland City League will consist of 9 weekly game nights, where new players, juniors, and some seasoned retirees can develop their game skills and have some competitive fun! The Fall ’10 City League will be hosted at Douglas College, in New Westminster on Tuesday evenings. The structure of the league will include nightly skill sessions and games. The detailed structure will be determined once the number of the participants is confirmed.

The Powell River Ravens invite you to attend a weekly recreational wheelchair basketball camp. This skills camp will run 10 weeks in length from September 24 to November 26, with a final exciting game against another team. We will meet at the Brooks gym from 4 to 6pm on Fridays.
