BC Official Dean Named Difference Maker
In celebration of Rick Hansen's 25th Anniversary of the Man in Motion tour, Wheelchair Basketball Canada and BC Wheelchair Basketball Society have shaped an award known as the "Difference Makers."
This award is intended to recognize and celebrate one individual in each province who can be defined as a "Difference Maker." This individual has exemplified "Service above Self" and has made a significant difference in the lives of others within the wheelchair basketball community.
BCWBS is excited to announce that BC's "Difference Makers" is our long time official Dean MacKinnon.
Dean MacKinnon has a long history of involvement, dedication, and success in the BC wheelchair basketball community. He has made a substantial contribution to the development of our sport. Wheelchair basketball does not exist without our on-court officials and Dean has been instrumental, in ensuring this pillar of our game develops.
Dean's involvement in wheelchair basketball spans over 40 years. His longevity of participation in our sport is outstanding; however it is the continual contributions off the court which have made Dean a true Difference Maker in BC. Dean has been instrumental in the training and recruiting of almost all new wheelchair basketball officials through presentations, mentorship, and on-court training and evaluations as the Head BCWBS Officials allocating all referees for games since the early 1980's. In addition, Dean has been on the Board of Directors for BC Wheelchair Sports since the mid 1980's.
"We wish to thank Dean for sharing his time and his life with us at BC Wheelchair Basketball and acknowledge him as BC's Difference Maker."
Congratulations and thank-you for all your hard work Dean!
