Junior

Event Information

BCWBS and its member clubs offer a variety of junior activities including weekly programs, skill development camps, and tournament opportunities. These programs are open to junior players aged 8 to 20 (some exception applies), both with a disability and without, from beginner to experienced players. For a quality sport experience good upper body mobility, ability to follow a sequence of instructions, and use of a manual chair are required.

Event Details

Weekly Programs - Regular weekly junior programs exist in a variety of communities across BC. These programs generally run from September to April of each year. Click here for a list of current programs.

Skill Development Camps - BCWBS hosts a series of skill development camps designed for junior athletes from novice to more experienced players. These camps are aimed at improving a player's individual skill level while having a ton of fun! Participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills and then use these skills in a game situation.

Junior Wheelchair Basketball Challenge Festival - BC Wheelchair Basketball annually hosts the Junior Wheelchair Basketball Challenge. The tournament features 2 divisions (8 ½ ft and 10 ft hoop height) to provide all of our junior players with the most positive and successful experience. Junior players from around BC participate in this tournament as well as teams from across Canada and the United States.

Steve Nash Challenge - BC Wheelchair Basketball annually hosts the Wheelchair Basketball Division in the Steve Nash Challenge hosted by Basketball BC. The event focuses on providing junior players with a positive competition and skill development experience just fot them. The players play 8 1/2 ft but there may be an oppoitunity to play on 10 ft hoops as well depending on the participants' level. 

BC Games/Canada Games

BC Games Society stages BC Games in rotating host cities across BC. Wheelchair basketball is a winter sport and will compete in the games every 2 years. For our sport, this is a stepping stone for the junior players to the Canada Games.

Canada Games is held every 4 years in rotating host provincies and wheelchair basketball is in the winter games. Team BC gears up for the next Canada Winter Games.
